Short Memory – Midnight Oil

Midnight Oil’s ground breaking 10 to 1 album this tune features unique arpeggio riffs and an avant-garde/noise guitar solo. Brooding, ominous and memorable.

Throw Your Arms Around Me – Hunters and Collectors

While this was never a massive hit in Australia it is one the best known songs in the land. A great choice for Weddings and it’s also one of Eddie Vedder’s favourite songs.

To Her Door – Paul Kelly

Another 80s oz classic from well loved singer/songwriter Paul Kelly. It’s a simple song with just 4 chords telling a great story of redemption and contains a cool country/rock guitar solo. “And his heart was singing like a lowdown guitar”.

Weather With You – Crowded House

Even though the main songwriter and singer Neil Finn is a Kiwi I will count this as an Aussie band as the other 2 members are from my home town of Melbourne where the band was also based for many years. One of their several songs about the weather with a sunny sing along chorus.

These Days – Powderfinger

A more moody tune from the 90s rockers from Brisbane. This song was part of the 2 Hands Movie soundtrack starring Heath Ledger and Rose Byrne. One of Powderfinger’s most popular songs.
