I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire – The Inkspots Cover & Guitar Lesson

With the recent release of the explosive Amazon Prime TV series Fallout (based on the game of the same name) my guitar lesson on how to play this 1940s soundtrack tune has gained many more views in the past few weeks.

The song I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire released by The Inkspots in 1941 with appropriate lyrics for an apocalyptic nuclear wasteland. The vintage sound of the original recording also suits the creepy vibe of the Fallout television series and game.

Inspired by the original recording I created my own cover version of the song and as I’m a guitarist of course I added a guitar solo. Read More

  • Rocking The Pentatonic Scale Box

    Rocking The Pentatonic Scale Box

So many classic rock guitar solos use the pentatonic scale as it’s an easy scale to play using the pentatonic box patterns on the guitar neck. All of the solos here use pattern 1 of this box shape plus other patterns to move around. These pentatonic scale solos are great to learn if you want to get into playing lead guitar.

Guitar Album Reviews – U2 – Rattle and Hum

Albums that got me into playing guitar

Way back in 1989 I was a 13 and after years of piano lessons I decided to
teach myself guitar. After all the guitar is a much cooler instrument and more
    portable than a piano.

That same year U2 were a superstar band releasing Rattle and Hum, a double album with a mix of studio and live tracks.

Containing the hit tunes Desire, All I Want Is You, Angel of Harlem and
Love Comes to Town the album was everywhere on the radio, TV and the film
version of Rattle and Hum was also shown in movie theatres around the world.

On Rattle and Hum U2 we’re looking to simplify their music while paying
tribute to American rock n roll, gospel, soul and blues. Read More

Autumn Leaves – 9th Chord Arpeggios – Jazz Guitar Solo Lesson

In this guitar lesson we will learn how to use 9th chord arpeggio patterns to create a guitar solo over the jazz standard Autumn Leaves in the key of G minor. For this tune it’s the last chord and not the first which is actually C minor.

The chord progression in G minor includes the following chords
    C minor 7, F7, Bb major 7, Eb major 7, A minor 7 flat (AKA half diminished), D7
and G minor 7. There’s also a shorter chord sequence at the end of the tune
    which includes the chords G minor 7, C7, F minor 7 and Bb7.

With the tune in the key of G minor you can play a solo
over the entire tune using G natural minor scale (AKA G Aeolian mode). While
this will sound fine it won’t outline the chord changes. Read More
